What we cover
We publish information about local businesses, restaurants, shopping destinations, attractions and essential services. Our guides may cover the historic Old Town, the town centre, neighbourhoods, the commercial district at Maylands and relevant nearby places.
Local geography
Hemel Hempstead is a town in Dacorum borough, Hertfordshire. Its Old Town, centred around the High Street and Queensway, is distinct from the New Town retail and civic area around Marlowes, Riverside and The Forum. Apsley, Boxmoor, Adeyfield, Bennetts End, Chaulden, Gadebridge, Grovehill, Highfield, Woodhall Farm and Warners End are distinct neighbourhoods or local areas. Leverstock Green has its own village-origin identity, and Maylands is a commercial and employment district.
Bovingdon is a separate village southwest of Hemel Hempstead; Kings Langley is a neighbouring settlement to the southeast, and Berkhamsted is a separate town to the west. We include them as nearby places only when relevant, not as Hemel Hempstead neighbourhoods.
Transport and civic details also require precision. Hemel Hempstead railway station is in Boxmoor; Apsley has its own station. The M1 and M25 are accessible by regional roads but do not run through the town centre. Dacorum Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council have different responsibilities. We distinguish current facilities from proposed development and check the exact location of businesses or public services.
Sources and changing details
Where practical, we use sources close to the subject, such as a business’s own information, Dacorum Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, venue pages, transport operators and relevant public bodies. Business status, opening hours, prices, school admissions, healthcare arrangements, travel routes, events and visitor facilities can change. We check current details where feasible and encourage readers to confirm important information directly.
We do not invent business names, reviews, prices, service areas, opening times, statistics or event dates. We distinguish the New Town’s planned post-war development from the Old Town’s older heritage, and Apsley’s paper-making history from current industrial operations. We avoid unsupported claims about safety, health outcomes, individuals, property values or development status.
Recommendations and commercial relationships
A listing or recommendation is not automatically paid for or endorsed. If a page contains sponsored content or another commercial relationship, we will identify it clearly. Commercial arrangements do not by themselves determine our editorial view.
Corrections
To report a possible error, email [email protected]. Include the page address, the detail in question and a reliable source if possible. We review correction requests and update material errors where appropriate. Minor edits may be made without a separate note; substantial corrections may be identified on the page.
A request does not automatically require removal or amendment. We consider accuracy, relevance, privacy, safety and the public interest. We do not publish private personal information or unverified allegations about individuals.
Scope
Our lists are selective, not a complete directory. Inclusion is not a guarantee of quality, availability or suitability, and absence is not criticism. Confirm important details with the relevant organisation before making a decision.
